Dental association counsels students on Career Options After Dentistry

Indian Dental Association (IDA) – Chandigarh State Branch conducted a series of mind throbbing lectures on “B.D.S….What Next?? Career Options After Dentistry” at Postgraduate Government College for Girls (GCG), Sector 42, Chandigarh on Monday.

 

About 325 young dental graduates belonging to tri-city participated in the program. Dr. Gautam Munjal, president – IDA Chandigarh state branch said that in this competitive era which offers a variety of lucrative vocation options, students find themselves often lost as to which career option will best suit their attitude and aptitude. He added, in this 21stcentury where one tries to fetch answers from Google, technology often aggravates the problem and increases the confusion leading to a feeling of helplessness and frustration among the budding dental surgeons.

 

Therefore, the IDA Chandigarh State Branch decided to organize a one day program focusing on the existing career options in the field of Research, Academics, Army dental corps, Administrative Services, Corporate Dental Practice, Private Dental Practice, Overseas, State Health Services, Dental Material Manufacturing and Marketing, Dental Trading and Entrepreneur & Social Service.

 

To throw light in these different career options available eminent stalwarts that have excelled remarkably in these respective fields shared their success stories. Dr. Sachin Rai, honorary general secretary – IDA Chandigarh State Branch, while addressing the audience mentioned that with the mushrooming of dental colleges lately, about 27000 dental surgeons graduate every year and with this growing competition, the only way to create a niche in the field of dentistry is to choose a career option that best suits one’s potential and professional capabilities.

 

Therefore, programs like these are a must that act as guiding pole star for the young and upcoming dentists and help them choose their correct option wisely and build a sound professional career. Prof. K. Gauba (Head of the oral and dental sciences department PGI, Chandigarh) enlightened the audience on the new vistas available in the field of oral health research and the job as well as further studies options available in India and abroad. Lt General Dr. S.B. Sehjpal (Retd. DG Dental Services) explained to the audience how they can pursue a satisfying career in Army Dental Corps. Dr. Simmi Gupta guided the dentists sitting in the audience on how they can think out of the box and choose a career in administrative services and how they can prepare themselves for the same.
