Eiffel Tower, the symbol of liberation of Paris that was constructed between 1887 and 1889 is named after a French civil engineer Gustave Eiffel. This wrought-iron lattice tower, which is among the world’s most visited monuments, was designed by a French civil engineer Emile Nouguier and a French structural engineer Maurice Koechlin. Starting from scratch in January 1887, they eventually finished the project in March 1889. Both of them worked for Gustave Eiffel. Gustave Eiffel along with his structural engineer Maurice Koechlin participated in one more world-famous project. They helped a renowned French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi to build The Great Statue of Liberty.
Indian Civil Engineering
History depicts India as a major contributor to civil engineering for its noteworthy ancient designs like the Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Konark Sun Temple etc. In the recent past, India has progressed tremendously in the department of modern civil engineering. The country’s civil engineers designed and implemented an 11km long Pir Panjal Railway Tunnel at Jammu & Kashmir in 2013. The civil engineers of DSP Design Associates at Bangalore have given life to a new form of the building by designing and constructing an office campus for the I Flex Solutions. While another group of civil engineers at Kolkata are on their way to incept the first underwater metro of India in the Hoogly river that will connect the east and west parts of the city.
Last year, India got her own symbol of excellence and togetherness in the form of Statue of Unity, which is designed by a famous Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar. The Statue of Unity is the statue of Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel that is 790 feet high including the base. This project of Statue of Unity was successfully completed in October 2018 by the civil engineers of Larsen and Toubro.
While these are the eye sparkling reasons to pursue civil engineering, there are other reasons to select this core branch to make a career in engineering. Every day in our vicinity, we see the inauguration of new malls, private buildings, residencies, government offices and what not. If you want to make your living by working as civil engineering, it is almost a sure thing that you will never be out of work.
