Tips to score high marks in NEET 2019 to be held on May 5

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) to be held on May 5, 2019.NEET 2019 is to be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission into the medical and dental courses in colleges all over India. NEET is an offline and students need to attend 180 MCQs within 3 hours.

There are 45 MCQ’s each from Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, and Botany. Further, 4 marks are awarded for a correct answer while 1 mark is deducted for an incorrect answer.

No marks are deducted for an unattempted question. This means that there is roughly a month left for preparation. Here, we bring to you a comprehensive strategy to utilize the little time left and maximize your score.

In the next 30 days, your objective is to work hard with minimum fuss and distractions. Firstly, make a study plan so that you can organize and structure your preparation. This way you will save time instead of thinking about what to do each day. Some things you should consider while making your study plan are:

Revision: The bulk of your time in the last month should be dedicated to revising what you have learnt. It is better to revise what you already know rather than learning new concepts. Split your day for revision of each subject. Spend 2-3 hours on each subject.

Mock Tests: There is a common misconception that mock tests should be given after your preparation is complete. That is not the case. You should give mock tests regularly alongside your preparation. Mock tests are the best way to validate your revision. You have a clear idea of your strengths and weaknesses from this. Mock tests inculcate the discipline of sitting for 3 hours at a stretch just like the actual exam. They also shape your strategy of giving the actual exam i.e. the order of sections you will attempt and how much time you will spend on each section amongst other things.

Analysis: Analyzing your performance in a mock is as important as giving a mock. Pay attention to the errors you make. Barring silly mistakes, use these errors to determine whether a topic should be revised or ignored in these 30 days.

Previous year papers: Make sure you go through the previous year papers of at least the last 5 years. You will get a fair idea of the variety and difficulty of the questions asked.

Once your study plan is set, adhere to it strictly. Now that you have figured out when to study, you have to think of how to study. It is vital that your preparation strategy is efficient as the syllabus for the NEET exam is vast.

Keep these things in mind while studying:

Most of the concepts are well explained in the NCERT books. You can study from your own notes or study material from coaching centers but NCERT books will suffice for revising the fundamentals. Do not try to cram anything. If you find something hard to remember, make short notes or move on. There is no time for you to waste on overloading yourself and getting unnecessarily stressed about.

Make a list of the topics that you will cover. It is prudent to prioritize some topics based on their importance as well as your own strengths and weaknesses.

Throughout the month, most of your energy is going to be spent on preparation and you may feel exhausted or even demotivated at times. Just remember, that it is merely a matter of 4 weeks. Your hardwork at this critical juncture might just be the greatest investment you make in your career. Take regular breaks to break the monotony. Do something which relaxes your mind and energizes you so that you can focus easily.

Make your environment comfortable with minimal disturbances so that you study with utmost focus and concentration. Do not neglect health. Make sure you eat healthy and get your beauty sleep.

If you backup these guidelines with dedicated efforts, there is nothing between you and a score of 600+ in NEET. A day before the exam, take care of things like stationary, admit cards and the location of your test center.
