Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a National Program of Fellowship in Basic Science, by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The aim of this program is to encourage the students to pursue a research career in Science. The students who get selected under this program are offered scholarships till Pre-PhD level or 5 years. If any student wishes to take up Basic Sciences for their Under Graduation, courses such as B.Sc, B.S, B.Stat, B. Math, Int. MSc, Int. M. S in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Zoology, Physiology and more courses related to scientific research, they are eligible for KVPY scholarship.
KVPY exam is scheduled on November 3, 2019, organized by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. The KVPY fellowship process will be in two stages, Aptitude test and Personal Interview. The students meeting the eligibility criteria will be selected to attend the first round that is Aptitude test of multiple-choice questions, and this test can be answered both in Hindi and English language. The students selected in first will be further shortlisted to appear for the second and final round that is Personal Interview. KVPY is a computer-based test, the exam will be conducted online and the duration of the exam will be three hours.
Following are the few tips to crack KVPY exam –
1. All Subjects are Equally Important –
Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology are the subjects to study for KVPY exam. All the subjects should be given equal importance as there is no fixed syllabus for this exam, but the students should have well knowledge about all the subjects.
2. Practice Previous Years Question Papers –
By practicing previous year question papers, one will know the type of questions that will be asked in the exam. This can help the students to get familiar with the kind of questions and the strategies that can be used to solve the questions. This can also help in increasing the speed of accuracy to finish the exam on time.
3. Find the Difficulty of the Subjects-
Try to find out the difficulty of all the subjects. By measuring the difficulty of the subjects you can find out the loopholes that have to be worked on before the exams. This also helps you to stay calm during the exams, and also may help in building your confidence for the interview by improvising your drawbacks.
4. Time Management –
Managing time plays a key role in easily cracking the KVPY exam. By understanding the weak and strong points students have to manage the time on each subject. For this, students have to practice time management prior to the exam by practicing every subject with a time fixed.

5. Maintain Notes –
Maintaining notes of summary and formulas for the major subjects will help you to remember them well during the exams. The notes can help in keeping the subjects revised well and, makes it easy to find the important topics.
6. Books to Refer –
To study for KVPY exam, students can refer to books that can provide them the efficient knowledge to attend the exam. Some of the recommended books are A Das Guptha, RD Sharma, NCERT books for Mathematics, P Bahadur, Modern ABC of Chemistry and NCERT books for the subject Chemistry, , Tata MC Graw Hill’s Book for Physics, and NCERT books, Biology class 10, and Biology sciences by Taylor Green and Stout for the subject Biology, and many more.
The students, who get selected after the KVPY exam, are considered eligible for the fellowship provided by the Government of India. The scholarship will be provided after the completion of class 12, only if the student pursues their degree in Basic Sciences. The students will be benefited with several facilities given by the government like they get the chance to be part of projects with by several labs under the summer program and can access government study materials from the central libraries and universities. This fellowship will encourage the students who are willing to take up research as a career.
