Four institutions from Hyderabad make it to top 100

The University of Hyderabad (UoH) was ranked among the top 10 institutions in India for the second consecutive year, according to the QS India University Rankings 2020 released on Tuesday.

This is the second edition of QS rankings exclusively for Indian institutions. While the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay secured the top position, the UoH bagged eighth rank of the 100 institutions ranked in India. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru and IIT-Delhi secured second and third positions respectively.

Staff with PhD was the best scored indicator of UoH in the QS India University Rankings 2020. At 40.5 per cent, Uoh secured highest percentage in citations per faculty followed by 26.9 per cent for faculty student ratio, 10.8 per cent for academic reputation, 5.3 per cent in employer reputation, 3.4 per cent in international students and 2.5 per cent in international faculty.

The UoH vice-chancellor Appa Rao Podile said that the rank reinforced their stature as a premier institution, for which they have been recently awarded the Institution of Eminence status. “It entails intensive work ahead to not only retain but improve our ranking, with a climb across all parameters,” said Podile.

Apart from UoH, IIT-Hyderabad too secured 15th rank in the top 100 institutions in India. The IIT-H has performed best under the faculty staff with PhD with 100 per cent and 90.5 per cent with papers per faculty. The IIT-H’s score for citations per paper stood at 72.6 per cent. The institute secured 68.2 per cent for faculty student ratio. Although the institute’s ranking was lesser than UoH, it stood higher in terms of academic reputation (24.1 per cent) and employer reputation (21.7 per cent).

The Osmania University improved its ranking from 34th rank in the last edition to 33rd rank in this edition. ICFAI, Hyderabad was the only private university from Telangana to make it to the list with 76-80 rank.
