UGC again reminds universities, colleges to fill up vacancies

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has once again sent reminders to all universities, deemed to be universities and colleges to take recruitment of teaching staff seriously and fill up vacancies at the earliest.

This is the fifth reminder the UGC has shot to higher education institutions (HEIs) in the last four months yet many universities and college are still run without even a single full time teacher.

Teachers bodies have called for a ‘Marshall Plan’ (which calls for providing economic support for the specific initiative) to get rid of the perninal problems.

Forums have also slammed the authtorities for delaying recruitment at a time when youths are unemployed.

“UGC is continuously taking stock of recruitment process but still government colleges, where MPSC is a recruiting agency, are still in passive mode. Universities too are in passive mode. Director higher education is NOC issuing authority in coordination with Mantralya for aided colleges is not acting on recruitment drive,” said Kushal M Mude,Convener, All India NET SET Teachers Organisation.

Professor Ramesh N Zade, president, National Forum For Quality Education, said “Higher education secretary at Mantralaya needs to take a mission as a Marshall Plan for filling up 10,000 vacant posts so as to maintain the standard and quality in higher education,” he said.
