IIT-Delhi, ISRO to jointly set-up space technology cell in campus

The Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi is also collaborating with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to set up a space technology cell. The cell will work for carrying out focused research projects in space technology that remain with specific deliverables. It is also proposed that IIT-Delhi as an institute becomes an academic partner of ISRO in research areas like AI, nanotechnology, functional textiles, smart manufacturing or any area of joint interest, the release mentioned.

The IIT-Delhi will hold its 50th convocation on November 2 and ISRO chairman K Sivan will be the chief guest. A total of 1,217 students will be conferred Post Graduate degrees, while 825 students will get Under Graduate (UG) degrees.

The President’s gold medal will be conferred to Kacham Praneeth, a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) student, while Mallika Singh (B. Tech in Biochemical Engineering & Biotechnology) student will get Director’s, Gold Medal, and Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal will be awarded to Himakshi Barsiwal (M. Tech in Chemical Engineering).

The institute will also release a commemorative stamp and a special cover to mark the convocation. V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi said, “This is the Golden Jubilee Convocation of IIT Delhi. We are very happy to announce the Billion Dollar Endowment drive, which was inaugurated by the President of India on October 31, 2019, in Rashtrapati Bhawan with an initial commitment of Rs 255 crore by our alumni. Our alumni are entirely spearheading this fundraising drive. We are also in the process of building professional teams for this purpose.”

“I am happy to report that the institute is investing over Rs 250 crores in augmenting its research facilities. Over Rs, 750 crore infrastructure projects are currently underway on the campus. We are excited about the progress we are able to make in all our endeavours. Kudos to all our faculty, staff and students for their commitment to take the institute to the next level and special thanks to MHRD, Govt of India and all our well-wishers for their support,” Rao said.
