CSIR-UGC NET 2019 exam postponed in Assam & Meghalaya

CSIR UGC NET

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed the joint CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test December 2019 Examination for the states of Assam and Meghalaya on Saturday. The exams are scheduled for Sunday morning and according to NTA sources, the decision was taken after taking in account the prevailing situation in the two states. In other States/UTs, the examination shall be held on December 15, 2019 as per schedule intimated earlier.

With major protests and demonstrations being planned across the state of Assam as part of the anti-CAB agitation on Sunday, “Many students may not be able to travel to the exam centres. The safety and security of the centres and the personnel are also taken into account while deciding this. The NTA will wait and take feedback from the local authorities before announcing the date for candidates from Assam and Meghalaya,” said an NTA official.

Another reason for the postponement of the exam has been the closure of the internet services in many part of the North east region.

There are 6,981 from Assam who have registered for the CSIR-UGC NET. In all there are 20 centres spread across Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Silchar and Tezpur.

CSIR-UGC NET is conducted for Junior Research Fellowship and Eligibility for Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professorship for following subjects — Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences and Mathematical Sciences.
