Students choice of selecting a university abroad depends heavily on the employability opportunities. Every year “The Times Higher Education” releases ranking list for universities around the world. The ranking is based on 13 performance indicators which measure the institution’s performance across teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

The list is prepared after compiling answers of several recruiters, chief executives and business managers from top companies in 20 countries.

Let us have a look at the list “Top Universities in Singapore for Higher Education for the Year 2020”

National University of Singapore

As Singapore’s flagship university and among Asia’s best, the National University of Singapore (NUS) offers a global approach to education, research and entrepreneurship, with a focus on Asian perspectives and expertise.

Our 17 faculties across three campuses in Singapore – Kent Ridge, Bukit Timah and Outram – provide a rigorous broad-based curriculum underscored by cross-faculty enrichment. We have pioneered many innovative academic programmes which include student exchange, entrepreneurial internships at 12 NUS Overseas Colleges, as well as double, joint and concurrent degree programmes with some of the world’s best universities. Close to 40,000 students from 100 countries enrich our vibrant and diverse campus community.

The University’s multidisciplinary and real-world approach to education, research and entrepreneurship enables us to work closely with industry, governments and academia to address crucial and complex issues relevant to Asia and the world. Researchers in our faculties, 29 university-level research institutes, research centres of excellence and corporate labs focus on themes that include energy, environmental and urban sustainability; treatment and prevention of diseases common among Asians; active ageing; advanced materials; as well as risk management and resilience of financial systems. The University’s latest research focus is to use data science, operations research and cybersecurity to support Singapore’s Smart Nation initiative. We also strive to create a supportive and innovative environment to promote creative enterprise within our community.

Nanyang Technological University

A research-intensive public university, NTU Singapore has 33,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students in the colleges of Engineering, Business, Science, and Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, and at its Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine which was established jointly with Imperial College London.

Named the world’s fastest-rising young university by Times Higher Education, Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is also one of the youngest in the global league of universities.

Its 200-hectare (500 acres) garden campus has frequently been named among the Top 15 most beautiful in the world. An environmentally sustainable campus, 95 per cent of its buildings are Green Mark Platinum-certified (equivalent to LEED-Platinum certification in the USA).

Beyond its picturesque buildings and lush greenery, NTU has a vision to transform its vast grounds into a Smart Campus that embraces digital technology to support learning and discovery, and improve the sustainability of resources.

The NTU Smart Campus is already a living testbed for various sustainable and energy-efficient technologies. NTU strives to serve as a model for other communities in Singapore and around the globe by demonstrating how advanced tech-enabled solutions can help improve everyday life in a sustainable manner.

For example, on the NTU Smart Campus, it already has a number of partnerships with leading players such as BMW, Volvo Bus, Blue Solutions and SMRT to drive the future of smart transportation, developing solutions for both electric and autonomous vehicles.

Interdisciplinary in focus, NTU’s high-impact research includes areas of global concern, such as artificial intelligence, robotics, sustainability, healthcare, new media and future learning. It hosts two national research centres of excellence, the Singapore Centre on Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) and Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS), tackling important questions in environment and medicine.

NTU is also home to world-class institutes. The National Institute of Education trains all teachers in Singapore, which is known for having one of the most successful education systems in the world. Other key institutes are the Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute, and the Energy Research Institute @ NTU.
