Covid-19: Teaching learning not affected in IIT as it begins live streaming of classes

Teaching and learning process has not been affected in the IIT Bhubaneswar as the institute begins live streaming of different classes for students. The institution has been closed as a part of precautionary measure to prevent spread of Covid-19.

Like the students, authorities of this national institute were also showing concern to complete the courses in time in order to hold the examinations according to the schedule of the academic calender. For this, technology is used to help the students.

IIT official sources said the teachers and students have accounts of Microsoft Teams. When the teachers start giving lectures, the students will get notifications and the latter can see the live streaming of the lecture. The students can also ask questions in the chat section. This can be possible with a laptop having the facility of web camera.

RV Rajakumar, director of IIT Bhubaneswar, said they have closed the institution after getting direction from the government to prevent spreading of Covid-19. “We cannot conduct physical classes during this situation, but we can have online classes to complete the courses in time,” he added.

He said his institution has started streaming live lectures for its students. “Our students staying anywhere in the world can access this lectures. If they want to put questions, they can do it in chat or they can text it to the teachers. They can clear the doubts over a topic in the next class,” he added.

Rajakumar said this live streaming has started from Wednesday onwards. “We have asked the teachers to save the videos as well for future reference. If any student faced any problem to access the live streaming, he/she can get the saved video link to watch the lesson,” he added.

Similarly, Utkal University has also decided to start e-learning system for its students to continue teaching and learning process in the university after the state government orders all educational institutions to close down in the wake of Covid-19.
