ARIIA 2020 Atal ranking announced IIT Madras secures rank 1 in centrally funded category

The Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) 2020 was announced today i.e. August 18 by the Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu. As per the ARIIA 2020 rankings, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras topped the Best Centrally Funded Institute category.

IIT Madras has topped the ARIIA rankings in this category for the second time. This year, the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Odisha (KIIT) has topped the rankings in the Best Private institution category.

For the first time, ARIIA 2020 rankings had a special prize category for women-only higher educational institutions. The Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women topped this category.

The ARIIA 2020 are calculated on the basis of seven parameters- budget and funding support, infrastructure and facilities, awareness, promotions, and support for idea generation and innovation, promotion and support for entrepreneurship development, innovative learning methods and courses, intellectual property generation, technology transfer and commercialization and innovation in the governance of the institution.

Thanking the Education Ministry for according this recognition to the Institute, Prof Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras, said, “IIT Madras is known for its world-class innovation ecosystem consisting of the Research Park and several other centres, that has already produced world-class companies and disruptive technologies for India.”

ARIIA 2020: Other details

ARIIA 2020 or Atal rankings 2020 are an initiative started by the Ministry of Education along with the All Indian Council of Technical Education (AICTE). It ranks the technical institutes of India across six major categories every year.

The objective or ARIIA 2020 is to rank higher education institutions and universities in India as per Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Startup, and Development amongst faculty and students.
