The universities have to give their detailed examination plans by Monday. The minister said that every university can have its own guidelines and set of instructions for the exams but the result has to be released by October 31.

“The state has asked the universities to submit by September 7 their detailed plan of conducting examinations. This would enable the government to hold a meeting with the disaster management committee to decide on the steps needed to be taken against coronavirus spread during the exam,” he said.

A few weeks ago, the Maharashtra government had announced the cancellation of all university examinations due to the high number of Covid-19 cases in the state. The Supreme Court had finally announced that all states will have to conduct the final year exams.

Students not to be promoted without exams

Shiv Sena’s youth wing, Yuva Sena, had moved the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the final year exams of universities across states in view of the Covid-19 crisis. The Supreme Court then announced that no university can promote final year students without exams.

“The students who are going abroad for higher studies will be getting a provisional certificate from their respective colleges and institutes. Several colleges abroad have shown a willingness to accept such a provisional certificate as a document for confirming the admission,” Samant said.

He further said that students have the choice to submit their final year certificates after seeking admissions in the foreign universities of their choice. He said that some provisional certificates have already been awarded and the foreign universities have held it valid.
