NEET Topper 2020 declared failed! NTA corrects NEET Result blunder after category topper flags discrepancy

National Testing Agency, NTA declared NEET Result on October 16 in which a serious blunder happened by the Agency when a NEET aspirant who failed in the medical entrance exam, turned out to be NEET Topper 2020 in the ST category. After the category topper raised concerns over his marks, the Agency came to rescue to reverify his marks.

Mridul Rawat, a 17-year-old NEET aspirant from Gangapur town of Sawai Madhopur district in Rajasthan was shocked to see 329 marks out of 720 on his result sheet. As per his calculations on the basis of the answer key, he scored 650. Mridul challenged the result before the Agency on the basis of his recorded response OMR sheet and answer key. He also raised the concern in a tweet to NTA.

Soon after the tweet, NTA started the rechecking process. However, after reverifying & rechecking, it turned out that Mridul has secured 650 out of 720 marks in NEET Result 2020. While speaking to HT, Mridul said, “My despair turned into delightful surprise today when NTA today accepted its mistake and released corrected result sheet in which I got 650 marks and was adjuged All India Topper of NEET 2020 in Scheduled Tribe category. My General category All India Rank is 3577.”

NTA again committed a mistake in the result sheet of Mridul where marks tally was showing correct marks 650 but the marks in words column were still showing ‘Three Hundred and Twenty-Nine marks’. Mridul again approached NTA to make the corrections. Later, the Agency released the amended mark sheet in which the marks in word coloum had the corrected numbers in words.

NEET Result 2020 was announced by NTA for 14.7 lakh students who appeared for the exam amid pandemic. The examination was conducted on September 13 and also on October 14, 2020, for students who were unable to appear due to COVID. Soyeb Aftab and Akanksha Singh topped the exam with 720 marks out of 720. The NEET Counselling schedule would release the Medical Counseling Committee soon on the official site of mcc.nic.in.
