UGC guidelines released for reopening of universities and colleges

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued new guidelines to reopen universities and colleges after an almost seven months lockdown in institutions for education across the country.

However, no institution should have an attendance of more than 50 percent of students. Online classes will continue for all according to the guidelines, students are advised to stay at home and continue with online classes a limited number of hostels are often opened. More than one student can’t be allowed to remain in a Hostel room.

Before reopening any educational complex, it should be ensured that the concerned central or government has declared that the area is safe for opening educational institutions.

“The Ministry of Education is prepared to satisfy these new challenges. The UGC has formulated new guidelines for reopening its premises keeping insight into all options and alternatives. These guidelines have also been approved by the Ministry of Healthy and Family Welfare and therefore the Ministry of Home Affairs” Union minister Ramesh pokhriyal nishank said.

In view of the spread of Covid-19, state and union territory governments are consulted on the opening of universities and colleges outside containment zones. Educational institutions across the country are often opened in a systematic manner after consultation with the state, Union territory governments. It will be mandatory to stick to UGC guidelines for re-opening educational institutions.

The head of central-funded education institutions will need to be satisfied before the re-opening. All heads of institutions are given the liberty to require decisions on the re-opening of classes.

Classes are going to be conducted altogether in higher educational institutions as per the choice of states and union territories. These include state universities, private universities, deemed universities, and colleges.
It will be mandatory to take care of social distancing and wear masks. Universities and colleges can open campuses during a phased manner employing a sort of protective measures. This includes administrative offices, research laboratories, and libraries, etc.

For research students, Necessary steps have been taken. Postgraduate students can participate in science technology and research courses. Since the number of people measures can be easily implemented in these instructions.

Since education is directly associated with employment, final year students also can be allowed to hitch the classes with due permission from the top of the institute.

Institutions can evolve an idea for international students who haven’t been ready to attend courses thanks to an international travel ban or visa problems.
