IGNOU – New Duration Set For Completing Few Academic Programmes

The maximum duration for completing postgraduate, diploma or PG diploma and certificate programmes have been changed by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). IGNOU students have to finish their postgraduate programme within the maximum duration of four years. The university has also changed the period of three years duration to complete diploma or PG diploma courses and two years for certificate programmes.

But there is no change in the maximum duration for completing undergraduate programmes. Three years is the minimum duration to complete the UG programme and six years is the maximum duration to complete it. Normally, the maximum duration of completing a postgraduate course under IGNOU is five years . In the 74th academic council meeting which was held on July 21, 2020 the matter was discussed. The changes in the maximum and minimum duration will not be applicable for the old students of IGNOU.

IGNOU stated that,”On 21st July 2020,the 74th meeting was held by the Academic Council and as per the provisions of the Ordinance on Admission, Eligibility, Duration and duration of various Degree, Diploma and Certificate Programmes and Courses (Clause-2), the matter related to minimum and maximum duration of academic programmes on offer were discussed. It has been decided that the maximum duration of the programmes on offer shall be Postgraduate Level — 4 years; Diploma/ PG Diploma Level — 3 years and Certificate Level — 2 years”.

But the maximum duration for the undergraduate level programmes remains the same as before.
