The Insurance Institute of Canada (IIC) is recognizing its students who, in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, continued with their education goals.

The institute has launched a new campaign called “Student Strong,” which shares the stories of several IIC students on the group’s website and social media. The stories deal with the students’ motivation, determination, and their coping strategies for succeeding in their studies amid the pandemic.

“In April, when exams got cancelled, I thought it would be very difficult to finish my CIP within 2020. But the institute’s quick and resourceful approach in coming up with an effective plan to avoid disruptions was a game-changer,” said CIP student Nafees Ahmad, one of the students featured in the Student Strong campaign.

Ahmad added that while it took time to get used to taking online exams with virtual proctoring, they were instrumental in ensuring he could continue his education without risking his health.

“In what was a very uncomfortable and unknown situation at the beginning, the institute always made me feel like I was a part of their extended family,” said Ginette Hardy, a mother of two who is studying insurance at college and is working towards her CIP designation.

Hardy, another student featured in IIC’s new campaign, also exclaimed that now is the best time to be in education, adding that once the pandemic is over, her confidence, knowledge, skills, and qualifications will put her in greater standing for the future she is aiming for.

“We are proud of our students for embracing the institute’s virtual solutions and carrying on with their education goals despite the many challenges of the pandemic,” said IIC president and CEO Peter Hohman. “We are equally proud of the CIP and licensing instructors who also demonstrated strength and flexibility as they successfully converted all of their classes to an online format.”
