UGC allows universities to offer 40% of Courses Per Semester Online under SWAYAM portal

According to a new notification released by the University Grants Commission, the students can take up close to 40 percent of the total courses in a semester in a program through the Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds also known as SWAYAM. The notification released on the official website, states that the Credit Framework for Online Learnings through Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds Regulations, 2021 will allow an institution to offer close to 40 percent of the total courses per semester through online learning via the SWAYAM Platform.

In a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of the universities and principals of colleges, the UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain stated that the University Grants Commission (Credit Framework for Online Courses through SWAYAM) Regulations, 2021  will facilitate an institution to allow up to 40 percent of the total course which is offered in a particular program in a semester through the online course offered through the SWAYAM Platforms.

UGC Letter

The University Grants Commission has developed 145 MOOCs while 208 MOOCs are offered in the SWAYAM Platform. Every higher education institution has been asked to make all the necessary amendments as and when required in their statutes, ordinances, rules, and regulations in order to accommodate and include the provisions of the regulations for seamless integration through SWAYAM  based online courses. The commission has further added that none of the universities will refuse any student for credit mobility of courses earned through the SWAYAM platform.
