While thousands of SC students are waiting for their post-matric scholarship in the state, over 200 at Government Brijindra College here have received funds four times more than they are entitled to.

These students have received Rs 40,000 each as post-matric scholarship in their bank accounts against their entitlement of Rs 10,000, said sources in the college.

After the error came to the notice of the college authorities, they are trying to prevail upon students to return the excess amount received in their bank accounts from the Social Welfare Department.

In every department in the college, 50 per cent seats are under regular courses and 50 per cent are that of self-financing courses. Seats under the self-financing courses are those on which the state government is not spending anything, leaving colleges generate funds for themselves. While the fee for regular courses is about Rs 10,000 per annum, it is Rs 40,000 for self-financing courses.

Sources in the college revealed that due to a clerical error on part of the Social Welfare Department, the scholarship of all eligible students, including those pursuing regular courses, was released at the rate of Rs 40,000.
