About Idhaya College for Women:
The Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary’s congregation was founded in the year 1844 at Pondicherry by Rev.Fr. Louis Savinien Dupuis, MEP a French missionary. From the beginning, the congregation aims at liberating the illiterate womenfolk from various types of social injustice. “Sanctification and Empowerment of Women”, in the field of education. Initially the Congregation administered primary schools, Middle High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools. Apart from these schools, progressively it has started running Technical and Teacher Training Institutions, Community Colleges, Arts and Science Colleges, Engineering College, School of Nursing and College of Education. The prime objective of starting these institutions was to provide opportunities for women towards their social and economical self-reliance and their dignity thereby empowering their status in the society. This college is a long cherished dream of the Diocese of Vellore. When the proposal of starting a college in Pudupalayam was made by the Diocese of Vellore, the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (FIHM) accepted it gladly. They have been working for the development of the womenfolk of this area, from 2004 with a humble beginning.
