uLektz eyes growth in TS : Plans to raise $5 million through venture capital route by March

Chennai-based edtech soft-ware-as-a-service (SaaS) provider uLektz Learning Solutions is keen to expand its operations in Telangana. It is actively engaged in talks with colleges and universities in the State as well as book/content publishers, to offer a suite of apps for higher education. In Hyderabad, about ten academic institutions and publishers have started using the company’s platform, and this number is expected to go up in the next one year.

The company’s platform is designed to be the operating system for higher education. It helps connect students, educators, and other stakeholders, and provides them a suite of apps ranging from learning management system, educational enterprise resource planning, and social learning platform to the market place of apps, offering digital resources and services for education, skill development, and careers.

 

Pan-India, it is looking to reach out to one million users and 500-600 colleges and universities in the next one year. It will also explore providing the platform in vernacular languages like Telugu, Tamil and Hindi to start with. uLektz Learning Solutions founder and CEO Sadiq Sait told Telangana.

Today, “Academic institutions are under pressure to go digital. They need platforms that help in enabling learning and placements for their students. Realising this need, we have provided an app that is tailor-designed to each of the over 200 colleges and universities that we work with across India. Our platform helps academic institutions in their campus management. There are about 3.5-4 lakh students and faculty currently on our platform. Students can interact with peers and faculty across the country.”

 

uLektz has nine product offerings — Connect (a social learning platform to connect, share and learn), Campus (college/ university management software), Books (digital learning material-e-books, videos and notes), Skills (skill courses with certifications), Interns (internships for real-time industry experience), Jobs (jobs & placement from the industry), News (educational news from India and abroad), Events (latest events related to higher education) and Scholarships (for higher education).

Partnerships

uLektz has partnered with national skill course providers and publishers on different themes and subjects to provide skill courses on its platform. The company provides over 1,000 e-books to students.

 

With the help of artificial intelligence and machine learning, students get recommendations on what is useful for them, he added. Currently, uLektz is being used by hundreds of colleges and universities across India to enable digital education and help face education transformation challenges by enhancing academic effectiveness, improving administrative efficiencies, supporting students with employability skills and job placements, and adhering to the compliance of various accreditation and regulatory bodies of higher education.

 

The company was founded in August 2016 by Sadiq Sait and Ratnakumar Bikkani, to address the problem of unemployment and under-em-ployment of fresh graduates by providing a one-stop solution for all the needs of higher education.

 

On the funding plans, Sadiq Sait said, “We have invested $1 million so far in the last 3-4 years and are planning to raise funds through venture capital firms by March 2020 to the tune of $5 million (about Rs 35 crore).” The company has been recognized for its innovation by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. It also has obtained ISO 9001:2015 certification for a quality management system and ISO 27001:2013 for information security management system.
