In collaboration with upGrad, Mumbai University has launched two Master of Arts programs in Public Relations and Communications and Journalism in an online and blended learning model. The programme, in both Hindi and , will be available. This is the first time the upGrad online platform has offered courses for higher education in a vernacular language.
The programme will have 15 hours of classes per week with both live and recorded lectures by faculty and industry leaders from Mumbai University. Arjun Mohan, Chief Executive Officer of upGrad India, said, “This partnership aims to disrupt the eLearning model’s educational myths and make prestigious degrees available to everyone along with affordability and versatility.”
“Through our strategic alliance with Mumbai University, we aim to assist aspiring learners with accurate program guidance, updated academia, and steadfast placement support, thereby contributing towards the government’s mission of doubling the country’s college and university enrolment to reach 50 percent by 2035,” Mohan added.

The first batches of the programmes are scheduled to commence from December 31. The programmes also reserve seats for specially-abled learners. “upGrad, in its strategic collaboration with Mumbai University, is committed to creating a world-class learning experience that will provide learners with the guidance of industry professionals, one-on-one personality development coaching, an opportunity to network with peers online, among others. With an aim to deliver an outcome-oriented learning experience, upGrad is also offering soft skills and aptitude coaching with Interview preparation, resume building, access to job portals with 5000+ opening every month, personalised career advice by industry mentors, free access to upGrad’s Entrepreneurship, and a chance to attain certification from the Government of India’s Start Up India Learning Program,” said Phalgun Kompalli, Co-founder, upGrad.
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accredits Mumbai University with ‘Five Star’ status and is rated among the top 25 universities in India in accordance with the Government of India’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF 2020). In Asia, it also ranks 177th and has a reputation as one of the world’s largest universities in terms of the number of students enrolled per year.
