Thiruvananthapuram: The Varsity was awaiting the sanction of the bill on Sree Narayana Guru Open University and its next step is to get recognition from the UGC. For this, the law passed by the Assembly will be sent to the UGC. Distance courses must also be approved by the Distance Education Bureau.
While before, the varsity was awaiting approval for its Undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Vocational diploma and certificate courses are not barred. Courses based on vocational skills will also be started. A distance learning course in Safety Management in association with the Department of Factories and Boilers will be launched soon. A certificate course will be started with KILA to impart training to the members of the local bodies.
Meanwhile the other day, the University Grants Commission has approved Sree Narayana Guru University, the first open university in Kerala. The varsity has also received a nod from UGC to start approved degree courses.
The governor has also approved the bill. The university vice-chancellor Dr P N Dileep stated that Sree Narayana Guru open university got listed among the UGC approved universities in India.
