The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released the National Institutional Rankings Framework (NIRF), the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) had emerged as best institute in India, bagging the top rank in the list. This is third consecutive year, for IIT Madras to bagged the top spot. In NIRF Rankings 2021 IIT Madras has been ranked number one in India in ‘Engineering’ and ‘Overall’ categories. Once again IITs have scored big in the NIRF Rankings 2021 list with seven IITs securing a spot in the list.
IISc Bengaluru has been ranked at second place in the overall ranking. Followed by that IIT Bombay has taken the third spot on top universities list.
The fourth, fifth and sixth has been taken by IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur and IIT Kharagpur respectively. Jawaharlal Nehru University took ninth place and Banaras Hindu University have secured tenth in the list.
Today, on September 9, the NIRF Rankings 2021 was announced by the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan virtually.
Based on the five broad generic groups of parameters the ranking framework evaluates institutions. Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and Perception (PR) are the five broad generic groups of parameters. Based on the total sum of marks assigned for each of these five broad groups of parameters, the ranks are assigned.
In 2015, the NIRF rankings were launched and in 2016 the first ranks were announced. The number of categories has been increased from four to eleven, since the first rankings.
