University Commission Launches Annual Skill Development Plan for Employees

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has taken a pioneering step by launching its first Annual Capacity Building Plan (ACBP). This initiative is designed to enhance the growth and skills of UGC employees.

In an official ceremony, UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar inaugurated the ACBP alongside Dr R Balasubramanium, Member HR, Capacity Building Commission.

“Today, for the first time, UGC launches its Annual Capacity Building Plan to take a leap towards growth and skill enhancement of its employees. UGC is the 1st autonomous organisation to have initiated planning for the capacity building of their employees in collaboration with Capacity Building Commission,” Kumar posted on X.

“The Annual Capacity Building Plan (ACBP) is a comprehensive plan outlining interventions essential for enhancing individual officials’ competencies and the overall capacity of UGC and this plan is derived from a robust Capacity Need Assessment exercise that was done with UGC officials and staff over a period of 6 months starting from March, 2023,” he added.

As per the UGC chairman, the target of this plan is to upskill UGC employees so that their capacity to serve the higher education system of India gets a boost.

Kumar stated, “The idea is to build, develop and enhance the abilities, talents, competencies, efficiency and qualifications of UGC employees to increase their capacity to serve the higher educational system in India.”

HOW UGC EMPLOYEES ARE GETTING SKILLED
By September 15, 2023, over 600 UGC employees joined the iGot Karmayogi platform. In the first quarter of October to December 2023, 630 employees successfully completed 4500 courses, averaging seven courses per employee.

The iGOT Karmayogi platform (https://igotkarmayogi.gov.in/) is a comprehensive portal designed to guide government officials in their journey of capacity-building and professional development.

UGC conducted various offline/face-to-face training programmes last year, covering topics like Reservation in Services, Introduction to Emerging Technologies, Data-Driven Decision Making, PFMS Awareness, and more.

This initiative aligns with the government’s Mission Karmayogi for skill enhancement.

With a commitment to continuous learning, UGC now plans to conduct additional training programmes, reinforcing its employees’ capacity and contributing to the government’s skill enhancement initiatives.
