University of Agricultural Science offers online courses in Scientific Writing, Predictive Analytical & more

To augment skill of its postgraduate and undergraduate students looking for specialised training in research, the University of Agricultural Science (UASB), Bangalore will launch three online short-term courses ranging from three to six months.

The university has decided to offer online courses in Scientific Writing, Predictive Analytical programmes such as R, Python etc, Bioinformatics and Tackling Climate Change through Global Learning.

“The university has identified areas in agriculture and allied subjects and will be ready with contents and modules by the fourth quarter of 2020,” says Rajendra Prasad, vice-chancellor of the university. He adds that these upcoming courses will be supportive for research being carried out by the students.

He further says that the future of online education is promising. Moreover, online education greatly decreases the carbon impact of student and staff travel.

“The overwhelming response for learn online prompted the university to start new courses,” he adds. Additionally, online education can bring experts from different parts of the world to train students and faculty at a single platform and reduce the financial burden on students.

Eligibility

University students will be given preference for upcoming courses. “Candidates will be shortlisted based on their academic performance and relevance of the chosen course for their research programme. Students with basic knowledge of these programmes will also be considered for admission,” he adds.

Fee structure and course intake

“The university is yet to finalise intake for each course, however, it is likely to be limited to 50. Initially, the fee will be waived for university students,” adds Prasad.

The practical components of the newly introduced courses and comprehensive hands-on training will be conducted online. The course does not involve laboratory visits.

Earlier, UASB has initiated International Virtual Summer School for the next five years (2019 to 2024-25) in association with Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland and Federal University, Brazil. Under the partnership, ten students from each institute will be selected for the five-month course with four European credit transfer system (ECTS).
