Railways research team develops R-Bot to continue work during coronavirus

In the time of coronavirus, the South Central Railway headquartered at Secunderabad of Hyderabad has deployed a Robotic device, ‘RAIL BOT’ (R-BOT) to assist in hospital management functions towards patient care. The R- BOT underwent extensive trials and demonstrations before being deployed for use in Central Railway Hospital, Lallaguda, Secunderabad.

R-BOT is now being used to provide medicines, medical accessories and to serve food to the patients, without any need for physical contact enabling the doctors, nurses and other support medical staff to stay away from the coronavirus.

How does R-Bot function?

The R-BOT is operated through a unique mobile application developed as a part of the Innovation, along with bluetooth connectivity and sensor installed on it can read the body temperature of patients and transmit the same for display on the Mobile phone. It also raise alarm in case of any abnormal high body temperature of the suspected patients.

The Rail-BOT is also equipped with a real-time video camera with pan and tilt functions, two-way audio, and video communication with a recording facility to run smooth interaction between patients and doctors.

R-BOT uses infra-red technology with emergency night lamp and night vision to enable
communication even in complete darkness and has eight direction motion control with observation avoidance sensors and motion detection to circumvent any foreign object in its way.

The unique R-BOT can travel the speed of 1 Kmph with a load-carrying capacity of 60 kgs and functioning on a single charge of battery for 06 hours.

Team behind R-Bot

The unique Innovation, developed by Hem Singh Banoth, the Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division and his team, has come in for praise as Gajanan Mallya, General Manager of the Zoen termed it as good attainment to strengthen medical care management, particularly in the prevailing Covid -19 Pandemic Virus situation.
